The Science of Steel Casting: Pioneering Advanced Alloy Development

Turning Obsolete Parts into Modern Solutions

At Tabarestan Steel Foundry (TSF), Research and Development (R&D) is not merely a department; it is the fundamental engine that drives our transition from a traditional manufacturer to a knowledge-based industrial leader. In an industry defined by extreme temperatures, high abrasion, and critical safety margins, standard solutions are often insufficient.

Our R&D strategy focuses on three core pillars: Advanced Alloy Development, Process Optimization, and the Localization of Imported Technology. By investing heavily in these areas, TSF consistently pushes the boundaries of what is possible in domestic steel casting.

Pioneering Metallurgical Breakthroughs

The crown jewel of our R&D achievements is the successful development and production of complex, high-performance alloys that were previously imported.

  • The 50Cr-50Ni-Nb Milestone (Inconel 657): TSF successfully localized the production of this high-strength alloy, known for offering corrosion resistance up to 12 times higher than conventional grades. This required precise control over the Chromium-Nickel-Niobium balance to prevent phase instability.
  • The 45Ni-35Cr-Nb Achievement (DIN 1.4889): For the Bushehr Petrochemical project, our R&D team mastered this advanced alloy, originally developed in France. By optimizing the melting and heat treatment cycles, we achieved the superior creep resistance and carburization resistance required for petrochemical tube sheets.

Strategic Collaborations and Validations

We believe that innovation flourishes through partnership. TSF has established deep research synergies with premier institutes and technology leaders to validate our findings.

  • Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI): To certify our new alloys, we collaborated with RIPI to conduct rigorous high-temperature stress rupture tests and chemical analysis. This partnership ensured that our domestic products met the stringent international standards required by the oil and gas sector.
  • FLSmidth Collaboration: When entering the vertical roller mill market, our R&D team worked directly with FLSmidth specialists. We cast and heat-treated 30 cm thick test blocks to prove we could achieve uniform hardness throughout massive cross-sections. This successful R&D project led to TSF becoming a validated supplier for ATOX and OK Mill components.

Reverse Engineering and Localization

A critical function of our R&D unit is Reverse Engineering. Many of our clients in the mining, cement, and steel sectors rely on aging equipment with obsolete parts or expensive imported spares.

Our team utilizes advanced 3D scanning and modeling techniques to create precise digital twins of existing components. We analyze the original material composition and often propose metallurgical upgrades—replacing older standard steels with modern, high-performance alloys to extend the component's service life beyond its original design specifications.
